Cleaning guide for gold, silver and diamond jewelry Mix

Ammon – To care for gold, silver and diamond jewellery, at home, follow the instructions of the cleaning guide, noting that some detergents may damage the gold, silver and diamond stones, which requires adherence to the information below.

Ways to clean gold jewelry

There are several methods used to clean gold jewelry, which are:
1. Baking soda and vinegar: Mix three parts baking soda powder with one part water, in a bowl, to make a thick paste. Cotton is used to wrap gold jewelry with paste. Then, slowly pour water over a sufficient amount of white vinegar, and pour the resulting mixture over the gold jewelry. You can wait for 5 minutes, before rinsing the jewelry well, then dry it with a soft cloth towel. It is worth noting that the mentioned method disintegrates dirt and debris, but it is not suitable for jewelry that is sensitive, fragile, of high value, or that contains precious or porous stones.

2. Baking soda and aluminum foil: Line a glass bowl with aluminum foil, with the shiny side up, then place the gold jewelry directly on the foil, sprinkling baking soda powder until it obscures it. Pour enough boiling water into the bowl to submerge the ornament. You must wait for 5 minutes until the water cools, to remove the jewelry, rinse it well with warm, not cold, water, then dry it with a soft cloth towel.

3. Ammonia: To clean gold jewelry with ammonia, mix 6 parts of water with one part of ammonia, in a small bowl, and soak the jewelry for no more than 60 seconds, then remove the jewelry from the bowl, rinse it well with clean water, and dry it. It is worth noting that it is necessary to wear two pairs of gloves when using ammonia, and to work in a well-ventilated area, and that ammonia may cause corrosion of gold when soaking the jewelry for more than one minute, and that the ammonia cleaning method is applied twice a year, not monthly, and that it is not correct to use ammonia on Delicate, fragile or high-value jewelry, or on jewelry with fragile or porous gemstones.

How to care for silver jewelry?
There is a safe way to care for silver jewelry by rinsing each one with warm water, then scrubbing gently with a soft cloth towel. Then, dry it with cotton dipped in unscented hand sanitizer, then rinse again under warm water to remove any remaining sanitizer. The jewelry is then dried. The second method is the same as that used to clean gold jewelry, by lining a bowl with aluminum foil (shiny side up), placing the jewelry, sprinkling baking soda powder and boiling water on it, then waiting for 5 minutes. Then rinse the jewelry well with warm water and dry it with a cloth towel. In the above method, table salt can be replaced with baking soda powder. However, it is not appropriate to follow the mentioned method (baking soda or table salt) when cleaning silver jewelry with fragile or porous gemstones.

On the other hand, toothpaste is effective in this context, as the silver jewelry is immersed in a bowl containing warm water to wet it, then the fingertips are used to gently massage the item using a thin layer of regular white toothpaste, while waiting for 3 minutes. Then pass a cotton ball moistened with water or a soft-bristled toothbrush. Then, rinse the jewelry under warm running water, and dry it with a soft cloth towel.

Cleaning diamond jewelry
The safest way to handle diamond jewelry is to soak them in a small bowl of water, with a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid added, for 15 minutes. Then, scrub the jewelry gently using a soft toothbrush, rinse with water and dry. The mentioned method for cleaning diamond jewelry is repeated once a month.
On the other hand, it is correct to place the diamond jewelry in a cup containing water and a dental cleaning tablet after the latter dissolves, then rinse and dry.
