VIVA – Cervical cancer is one of the most common types of cancer stalking women and has a fatal impact. In fact, the doctor warned, cervical cancer has the main prevention which is actually easily accessible by various circles of society.
Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Indonesian Gynecological Oncology Association, Prof. Dr. dr. Andrijono, SP.OG(K)-Onk., said infection HPV as a cause of cervical cancer can occur if there are: sexual intercourse. Very small risk if cervical cancer occurs without sexual intercourse.
“Women who have had sexual intercourse are vulnerable to the risk of transmission of the HPV virus. At this stage, early detection has become an absolute must to prevent more delays in cervical cancer treatment,” he said in a virtual event with Roche Indonesia, Thursday 19 May 2022.

There are technical stages in detecting the HPV virus through HPV DNA testing, such as pre-cancer screening to identify risks before symptoms appear, colposcopy to follow up on abnormal cervical cancer screening tests, and confirmation of the presence of cancer by taking cells from the cervix for laboratory examination.
“Therefore, early detection is carried out on women who have had sexual intercourse sex and to be vaccinated, the cervix should be seen first, test for HPV, pap smear, check that the cervix is normal. I’m afraid that the cervix is not seen, so there is hidden cervical cancer. If it’s still a pre-cancerous lesion, it’s treated first, then a vaccine,” he said.
Talking about the HPV vaccine, the Indonesian Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin, has announced that he will include it as a mandatory immunization. HPV vaccine can be given at the age of 9 to 45 years at different doses. At the age of 9-13 years is recommended 2 doses and ages 14-45 years given as much as 3 doses.
