‘The Home Edit‘, the Netflix show that makes the arduous task of ordering something aesthetically pleasing, has just premiered its second season on Netflix thus confirming its great success. Instead, while the good news, the good reviews and the celebrations took place on social networks, one of its protagonists lived a very different reality behind the scenes and now he has just made it public through the company’s official networks.
Cleahalf of ‘The Home Edit’, shared with his followers the complicated news that he had been diagnosed breast cancer: “It’s hard to say, but it’s easier than keeping it to myself,” he said, also announcing that this same Friday, April 8, he would undergo an emergency double mastectomy.
The American made the news public to raise awareness among thousands of followers about the importance of self-examination and also to inform their doctors of any anomaly they may find: “I found a lump myself the last week of February“, some lumps that, after several medical examinations, turned out to be malignant tumors: “I have two tumors of 1 centimeter each that are very aggressive and spread rapidly“. Luckily, he acknowledges, they were detected in time.
The important message for his followers
Instead, not with as much time as he had liked, he also denounces in this publication. Clea assures that she was insisting to her doctors to check her out, something that cost her a lot: “He was trying to get an appointment with my obstetrician for months, and even when I told him that I had found a lump, they did not find a space for me,” he says.
“I had to request a mammogram to my GP, which led to an ultrasound and then an emergency biopsy,” he explains of the complicated weeks of his life. “If I hadn’t done all of this myself, I’d be in a much different situation than I am right now.“, she acknowledges gratefully.
For this reason, he did not hesitate to take advantage of the loudspeaker he has to raise awareness among his thousands of followers: “It is a personal choice to make this public, but sharing my experience makes my cancer something useful. If he can convince any of you to examine yourselves regularly, stand up for yourself when you consider it, and give priority to your health above your busy schedules, then it will have been worth something“.
She also acknowledged that, after the first hard days after receiving the news, she felt grateful for the privileged situation she has to cope with all this: “I must admit that the first few days I had to deal with the feelings of ‘why me’, but quickly I began to think: ‘why not me’. I have all the supports, resources and a platform to help other people get through this. So if someone has to have breast cancer, I’ll gladly let it be me.“, he ended up saying.
