Clayton Kershaw new all-time strikeout leader with Los Angeles, Dodgers

A few months after the rumors placed him out of Los Angeles, star pitcher Clayton Kershaw signed for one year with the team that has seen him become a legend in the MLB, he had a great start to the season and, this Saturday, December 30, April, the left-hander became the all-time leader in strikeouts with the Dodgers.

During the fourth inning of the game against the Detroit Tigers, the star left-hander reached the magical figure of 2,697 strikeouts by fanning rookie Spencer Torkelson, the first overall pick in the 2020 Draft whom he had already struck out in the second inning.

Thus, Kershaw overtook Don Sutton on the Dodgers’ all-time roster. In 16 seasons with Los Angeles, he struck out 2,696 batters.

Before Sutton, Don Drysdale set the record with 2,486 for the franchise that moved from Brooklyn. Before getting the strikeout that placed him as the historic leader of the Dodgers, the left-hander Kershaw was close to getting his pass in history against the Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera, the most recent member of the 3 thousand hits club who, being with the counted at 1-2 during the third inning, he ended up taking a defensive swing to roll the ball back to the pitcher.

After his contract with the Dodgers ended, several rumors claimed that Kershaw was interested in signing with the Texas Rangers, the team from his home state that had a great winter break signing the stars Marcus Semien and Corey Seager, mainly.

However, the three-time Cy Young Award winner opted to sign for one more season with Los Angeles to finish some unfinished business.
