The outgoing president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024), presented the presidential sash to the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Ifigenia Martínezwho placed the tricolor garment on Sheinbaum, the first woman who will govern the country after more than 200 years of being a republic.
Sheinbaum took office amid shouts of “president, president” and “it’s an honor to be with Claudia today!”, as an echo of “it’s an honor to be with Obrador!”
After the session in Congress, Sheinbaum will go to the National Palace, where he will eat with the invited leaders, among whom the presidents of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva; of Chile, Gabriel Boric; of Colombia, Gustavo Petro; of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Caneland of Honduras, Xiomara Castro.
Also attending will be personalities such as the first lady of USA, Jill Bidenand the high representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Borrell.
