Claudia Jäger: First Woman Director of Frankfurt/Rhine-Main Regional Association

Rhein-Main ⋅ Claudia Jäger will be the first woman to take up office as director of the Frankfurt/Rhine-Main regional association on March 1st next year. On Wednesday, the 58-year-old CDU politician, who has been at the head of the Offenbach district for 25 years, first as an alderman and since 2004 as first alderman, was elected with an overwhelming majority. The representatives of the 80 municipalities in the regional association voted on this. Despite its size and economic importance, the Rhine-Main region has no representation directly elected by citizens.

Jäger was the only applicant for the position. Of the 87 votes of those present, 81 were for the public prosecutor, with one invalid vote and five no votes. The representatives in the association chamber have different numbers of votes depending on the size of their municipality: Frankfurt has twelve, Offenbach has four, Bad Homburg and Rüsselsheim have two each – all the others have one. The CDU and SPD have been working together as a coalition in the association since 2014.

Jäger is considered a proven regional politician

She is the long-time chairwoman of the regional park’s supervisory board, is a member of the supervisory board of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) and was most recently a volunteer member of the regional association’s board. The CDU politician Uwe Kraft praised their expertise. “Jäger is an experienced and regionally networked politician,” he says.
