Claudia de Breij receives royal decoration during ribbon shower | NOW

Claudia de Breij was appointed Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion on Monday. The cabaret performer, musician and presenter receives the royal honor for her artistic contribution to culture and for her side activities.

De Breij, 46, has been in the theater business since 1997. The Utrecht native won the Cabaret Award for best female comedian in 2004.

Between 2006 and 2014, De Breij won the Zilveren RadioSter six times for best female radio host. In 2015, the cabaret artist won the Louis Davidsring for her services in cabaret art. The following year, she became the first female comedian to perform the New Year’s Eve conference live on television.

De Breij was and is an ambassador for a large number of social charities, such as the Ronald MacDonald House, UNICEF Netherlands and the National Committee on 4 and 5 May. She also regularly shows her commitment to the LGBTI community in the Netherlands.

2,832 civilians were awarded royal awards during Ribbon Rain 2021

In the Ribbon Rain 2021, 2,832 citizens will receive a royal decoration for special merits to Dutch society. In 2020 that was 3,060 people. This year, 285 proposals received a negative advice from the advisory body that is examining the appointments.

The oldest recipient of a royal honor this year is 110 years old and the youngest 35 years old. 35 percent of the recipients are women.

Glamor photographer Govert de Roos was appointed Knight in the Order of Oranje-Nassau. Graphic designer, typographer and artist Karel Martens can call himself Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion from Tuesday.
