Claude Camirand Appointed as Superintendent of Education by CEPEO – January 8, 2024 Start Date

The Eastern Ontario Public School Board (CEPEO) announced the appointment of Claude Camirand as superintendent of education. He joins the superintendent’s office which has four education superintendent positions.

Camirand holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of Ottawa and a bachelor’s degree in education from Laurentian University. He has more than 20 years of experience in the Canadian and Ontario school systems. Having started his career as a substance abuse and mental health worker for adolescents, he continued this as a teacher in the Northwest Territories and in Ontario subsequently. Since August 2022, he has held the position of principal of Saint-Victor d’Alfred Catholic elementary school at the Conseil scolaire de district catholique de l’Est ontarien (CSDCEO).

“Throughout his career and in the leadership positions he has held, he has demonstrated leadership in an environment that promotes staff and student engagement and success in a culture of collaboration and accountability, mentions the press release issued to this effect by the CEPEO. Among other things, he contributed to the implementation of the CSDCEO health protocol at the Plantagenet Catholic secondary school in order to ensure the well-being and safety of students and staff.”

Claude Camirand also worked as assistant director of Educational Services at the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales (CSDCAB) where he supported educational advisors with his commitment and leadership and ensured file management, including initiatives for student success. . He also supported school principals at the elementary and secondary levels, developed the school improvement process and implemented a data-driven pedagogy.

“I am happy to join the management team and collaborate with all of the CEPEO staff. I would like to be able to contribute strategically to the stimulating initiatives and projects that await me in my new role. My goal is to contribute to the promotion of the quality education offered by the CEPEO. It is with great enthusiasm and humility that I begin this professional mandate within the council,” mentions Claude Camirand.

His notable experience in education and his transversal knowledge acquired with several school boards in Ontario make him an asset to our board. Having the success of students at heart, Mr. Camirand will be able to support, through his leadership and his commitment, our entire school community,” underlined Samia Ouled Ali, president and Christian-Charle Bouchard, director of education of the CEPEO.

Claude Camirand will take office on January 8, 2024. The role of Superintendent of Education is to ensure that the objectives set for the implementation of the programs of the Ontario Ministry of Education and the Board are achieved in accordance with policies, directives, standards adopted by the Council and relevant legislation.

Last year, the CEPEO had 44 schools welcoming 17,500 students. More than 5000 people work for this organization.
