Regensburg.Max Schneider, first board member of AMC Deuerling in the ADAC, is particularly looking forward to the 18th Classic Rallye this year, which starts from Regensburg Neupfarrplatz on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the Bavarian Forest. “We have chosen a route that does not have any traffic lights at all. Just curves,” enthuses the vintage car fan. The day before, most of the vehicles can be admired on Regensburg Cathedral Square. A total of 130 classic cars (vehicles that are at least 30 years old) have registered to take part in one of the most beautiful rallies for classic cars.

From the pre-war Mercedes to “newer” vintage cars, such as the Porsche 911, series 993 (the last air-cooled boxer engine), pretty much everything that has written automotive history is represented.

With starting number 1, IHK President Michael Matt leads the official field in a BMW 328 convertible from 1938. The preceding vehicles are already on the route. There are also two motorcycles, and they pack a punch: a Cotton Python Special from 1932. Andreas Ulm will drive the 18 hp vehicle. Karl Rauscher will be ‘chasing’ a 47hp Rudge Ulster racing version around the track, although chasing might not be the right verb. Because, as Schneider emphasized, this is a vintage car rally with an average speed of 50 km/h, so it’s not fast, it’s more leisurely.

Yesterday, the 18th Classic Rallye was presented in Regensburg’s Donau shopping center. An 84-year-old motorcycle, a Ferrari 308 in a racing suit and last but not least a baby blue Porsche 356, the dream of many car enthusiasts, attracted a lot of attention. In the DEZ because on Sunday, after the drive into the Bavarian Forest and lunch in the “Stoi” with star chef Lucki Mauerer, the classic car community meets there for a regularity test. The pilots should move their vehicles up and down the DEZ spindle as evenly as possible – not an easy task.

If you want to experience this spectacle live on the track, you sometimes have to set off early: the start at Neupfarrplatz is at 9 a.m., the first vehicle from the list of participants is expected around 9.30 a.m. in Wenzenbach, then in Altenthann, and around 11.10 a.m. in Michelsneukirchen . After lunch you want to be in Miltach at 1:10 p.m. before you go to Roding and finally back to Regensburg via Nittenau. The award ceremony is at 6 p.m. in the Galeria Kaufhof restaurant on Neupfarrplatz.

The 18th Classic Rally also has a social aspect: anyone who has donated more than 600 euros will have a “Schnapsnummer” (11, 22, 33, etc.) stuck to their car as a start number. The amount donated will then go to Haus Hummelberg on the one hand and to the Regensburg children and youth farm on the other.
