The Guerrero Department of Education announced on Sunday that classes will be suspended for Monday in Acapulco and Costa Chica due to the possible formation of tropical storm “John” in the coming hours.
In a statement, authorities indicated that in-person classes and administrative activities will be suspended in all private and public schools in this region.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported on Sunday afternoon about the formation of tropical depression “Diez-E” in the Pacific and noted that it could intensify in the coming hours.
According to the latest report, the depression will cause heavy rains and waves between one and three meters high, as well as the possibility of waterspouts in Guerrero, Oaxaca and Chiapas.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned that this phenomenon will likely cause “significant and possibly catastrophic flooding in parts of southern Mexico.”
According to the forecast, “Ten-E” will become Tropical Storm “John” tonight or on Monday.
Governor Evelyn Salgado has urged residents in the state to take extreme precautions in the face of strong winds and high waves.
For the next few hours, the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Guerrero forecasts heavy to occasional rains in the north, center, Tierra Caliente, Costa Grande, Acapulco, in the mountains, the Costa Chica and the sierra.
