“Class 8 Used Truck Prices Falling in South, Says ACT Research”

Class 8 used trucks are less popular with our neighbors to the south and their prices are falling. This is what emerges from the most recent bulletin from the specialized firm ACT Researchwho looked into the matter.

The number of units sold at retail by dealers fell 23% in April compared to March and 16% compared to April of last year.

Average prices declined 8% from last month and 31% from April 2022.

“It’s normal for sales to decelerate in April, but the decline was more pronounced than the 8-10% that was expected,” said Steve Tam, vice president of ACT Research.

The expert points out that used truck inventories are on the rise and he concludes that demand is running out of steam. “It’s a plausible explanation, especially when you take into account the slowing economy and the conditions in the transport of goods,” he adds.

When we combine the sales of used trucks transacted at retail by dealers (-23%), those at auction (-45%) and those wholesale (+72%), the market fell by 28% overall in April.

According to Mr. Tam, the attractiveness of used trucks should continue to fade, while the volumes of freight to be transported are in decline.
