Three people were injured fierce clashes between police and protesters in Norrkoping, southwest of Stockholm, Swedish police said, quoted by AFP.
The riots were over caused by the statements to the leader of the far-right Hard Line political party, Danish-Swedish politician Rasmus Paludan. On April 14, he burned a copy of the Koran in a Muslim-populated area of Linkoping. Paludan announced that he would return to Norrkoping and Linkoping to carry out more similar actions. Shortly afterwards, riots broke out.
“The police fired several warning shots. It seems that three people were hit by ricochets and are currently being treated in hospital, “police said.
The three wounded, whose condition is unknown, were also “arrested on suspicion of a crime”. This is the second such clash between protesters and police in the last four days in Norrkoping.
In southern Sweden, the town of Malmö was also affected by various episodes of violence last night. Garbage cans, a bus and a car were set on fire.
“Around 3 am, the situation calmed down, there were several fires, but the violence subsided,” police spokeswoman Kim Hild told public radio, adding that no police officers were injured.
About 12 police officers were injured in the clashes on Thursday and Friday.
