(ANSA) – NAPLES, OCTOBER 19 – Clashes occurred between anti-G7 protesters and police forces in the central Piazza Carità, a central area of Naples which is always very popular with tourists, despite the rain. The demonstrators approached the police and used three large cardboard posters as a shield, above which they sent stones and bottles flying. The police responded with smoke bombs and then with truncheons. No injuries were reported in the contact between the two sides, although several appeared to be suffering from the effects of smoke and tear gas. The demonstrators then retreated, but remained in the square, still manned by a large deployment of law enforcement officers. Then the young people from the social centers and other antagonistic realities disbanded the procession and the situation returned to normal. The incidents occurred in the presence of many citizens and tourists, including foreigners, who witnessed what was happening in disbelief, without however giving up filming the clashes with their cell phones. The demonstrators claim what they say was a success: “More than 2000 people – they claim in a statement – in the square in Naples violated the security device imposed by the Police Headquarters to clearly say that the G7 of the war is not welcome. A determined multitude who clearly said that Naples repudiates the war, the genocide of the Palestinian people: Crosetto and the G7 ministers in Naples will not pass. We will push your wars back.” (HANDLE).
