Clashes and injuries in the Lebanese League, and Al-Burj Club denounces the events of Jounieh Stadium

The Lebanese Football League, in its third week, witnessed unfortunate events during the Al-Racing match against Al-Burj, at the Fouad Chehab Stadium in the coastal city of Jounieh, after clashes took place, which resulted in injuries among the fans and the technical staff of Al-Burj club.

Al-Burj Club interacted with the events and said in an official statement today, Sunday: “Al-Burj Sports Club denounces and denounces the management, technical staff, players and fans of what its fans and administrators were subjected to, from its president to the various members of the technical staff, of blatant and clear assault without any justification whatsoever, which caused a large number of Among the injured among the fans were children and the elderly, many of whom were thrown on the stands, and the rest were followed to the stadium parking lot, where they were also severely beaten. We also condemn the severe beating of the former international referee, Captain Radwan Ghandour, in the stadium parking lot.

He added, “Al-Burj Club is surprised by what the Internal Security Forces did after the end of the match, as if it was carrying out a plan whose goal we do not know at all, knowing that the match ended and the fans were about to leave. Al-Burj Club calls on the Lebanese Football Association, the Lebanese Army and the Ministry of Interior to open a transparent investigation into what happened.” It leads to accountability for those responsible for what happened.”

He concluded, “The administration also announces that no other match will be played at Jounieh Stadium, to protect the fans and players for fear of the security forces, especially the riot police, who had it not been for the Lebanese army, the severe beating would have continued until now, and we would have been imprisoned in the Jounieh area.”

A source from inside Al-Burj Club, who was in the stadium, told Al-Araby Al-Jadeed about the incident: “The match was over and the atmosphere was normal in the stadium, and we were about to shake hands with the players of the opposing team. Our colleague, the player Abu Bakr Al-Mull, was holding a child in his hands, and he wanted to cross to the main platform. He was prevented from doing so and sprayed with red pepper spray.”

And he continued, according to his account, “Abu Bakr was trying to end the matter in a natural way, but he was pushed by a member of the security forces, and here the public was not satisfied with what happened, but the response in return was violent, and the security forces did not differentiate between a child, a young man, and an elderly person, while spraying pepper spray on them, This prompted the players and the coaching staff to get angry, so that confusion mixed with bombs, and we were attacked on and off the field.”

In turn, the former international referee, Radwan Ghandour, commented on what happened through his Facebook account, saying, “The riot police sparked a riot in the Jounieh stadium.”

The coach of Al-Burj Club, Hussein Tahan, was also subjected to a blow that knocked him to the ground, while a video clip showed the security forces spraying spray on the fans at the gates of the stadium, despite the presence of Al-Burj president Fadi Nasser. Some posts on social media showed injuries to some fans, including a child and a woman.
