But Nicole Gosling spoiled it Friday when she scored 1:51 into overtime to give the sixth-ranked Golden Knights a 3-2 ECAC hockey win over the Garnett Chargers at Chiel Arena.
Union (3-2-0 ECACH, 10 points, 5-8-0 overall) had one point in the overtime loss. This is only the second time Union has scored against Clarkson (2-1-0, 5 points, 8-3-0 overall). Union beat Clarkson 2-1 at Messa Rink on November 4, 2011.
Maci spent eight years on Clarkson’s staff before being named Union’s head coach on July 31, serving as a top assistant on Matt Desrosiers’ staff.
After a scoreless first period, Clarkson took a 1-0 lead on Anee Cherkowski’s goal 39 seconds into the second period. Maddie Suitor tied the score for Union midway through the second.
The Golden Knights regained the lead on a Sena Catterall goal 5:28 into the third period. Karianne Engelbert tied the score for Union less than six minutes later.
