The woman had reported assault and rape by her partner to police. He also allegedly threatened to kidnap their daughter.

On the morning of September 8, Clarinda texted Jeffrey. She said she wanted to end the relationship permanently. “It’s time to accept that. I spent hours trying to explain it to you face-to-face.” The relationship is said to have ended on the advice of the mental health care provider.

That same day he drove to Den Bosch with a knife and stabbed the 33-year-old mother several times at a shopping center. She died on the spot. Their 1-year-old child was with the mother at the time of the stabbing. They had been staying with family in Den Bosch for quite some time. The child was unharmed. Bystanders arrested the fleeing Van den D. and handed him over to the police. He had brought a knife because he was afraid of her, he told the judge. She allegedly threatened him subtly.

Clarinda is said to have ended the relationship because her boyfriend previously abused her. From no fewer than 78,000 chats that the couple sent to each other, the police conclude that the suspect once stabbed her with a key and bit in the neck.

Diaries

Both suspect and victim kept a diary in the months before the stabbing. The police found three at Van den D. „I am angry, I want to hurt her. I feel abandoned and alone. She’s lying, she’s going to leave me. I feel lonely and alone.”

Van den D. suffers from autism and traits of narcissism and borderline, a behavioral expert judged. He had no indication of a preconceived plan. “I do see a desperate man who was cornered and couldn’t handle the tension.” Van den D. also had suicidal tendencies. TBS with compulsory treatment has been advised.

The victim first worked as a family coach at Youth Protection. In recent years she worked as a board investigator at the Child Protection Board. Jeffrey van den D. worked as a children’s coach and homework tutor in his own practice in Utrecht.

Later on Thursday, the public prosecutor will present his argument and the sentence.
