Clarification: Yellow Stains on Honda eSAF Motorbike Frame Not Rust, Says PT Astra Honda Motor

Jakarta

Not long ago social media was buzzing with posts of the eSAF motorbike frame (enhanched smart architecture frame) belonging to Honda is suspected of having corrosion. PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM) clarified that the yellow stains that appear on the frame are not rust.

PT AHM provides clarification through the Instagram account @welovehonda_id. It can be seen that the main frame area behind the front tire fender appears yellow spots. The stain settles in the welding area.

Initially the area is cleaned with a wet tissue to remove dust. Next, the dry area is wiped again using a dry tissue, no yellow stains appear.

“If the rust is wiped off, it will definitely leave powder stains,” explains Honda in a video uploaded to Instagram @welovehonda_id.

Honda calls the yellow spots not rust but silicates. “The silicate layer that is formed serves to coat the welding results from oxidation or rust,” explained Honda.

A moment later the video shows another rusty piece of iron. When wiped with a tissue, the rusty iron leaves a yellow stain.

For information, the framework with eSAF technology will be introduced in 2019. The first motorbike to use it is the Genio. Furthermore, the frame is installed on the BeAT, Scoopy, and Vario 160 motorbikes.

The eSAF frame uses sheet steel plate which is thenpress and welded. This is different from other motorbike frames that use cut pipes.

For the consolidation of several steel plates that arepress earlier, the welding is also different. The unification process uses a laser welding tool which is claimed to minimize deformation.

There are at least six parts of the frame that are put together to form a frame. The welding uses a laser wielding so that the results of this laser welding are claimed to be of better quality, not affecting the composition of the body frame. Almost no deformation.

AHM claims the eSAF frame is 8 percent lighter than the previous Honda scooter frame. This makes driving more comfortable and easy to maneuver. Because it is lighter, fuel consumption is also more efficient. Even though it is lighter, Honda says the eSAF has better durability because it uses steel.

But recently it went viral on social media for the eSAF framework. The discussion about the eSAF was rife because a video of a Honda scooter with a narrative of a rusty frame went viral on social media.
