Clara Shinta was in the spotlight after deciding to become a convert and for the first time leaving for Umrah to the holy land of Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
Not only that, Clara Shinta’s story also attracted attention because she kept the decision to convert to Islam a secret from her parents for 6 years.
“So actually, right, I’ve converted from 2017, that’s my mom, my dad, all my family don’t know,” Clara Shinta said when talking with Aurel Hermansyah in a YouTube broadcast quoted on Thursday (3/8).
Clara then recounted that she had played a role as if she were still a Christian when she met her parents in her hometown.
In fact, Clara also attended church services with her parents even though she had decided to become a convert.
“Mom, I’m not a Muslim, so if for example I go back to Medan, I’m, right, in Jakarta, after getting married I live in Jakarta, when I go back to Medan I (worship at) church,” said Clara.
“So for example, every Sunday, I still attend church with my parents,” he continued.
Not without reason, Clara admitted that she felt uncomfortable when she had to tell her parents that she had converted to Islam.
The reason is, Clara loves her parents so much and doesn’t want the convert’s decision to cause disappointment.
“Because my principle basically is that I really love my religion, but after all, I also really love my parents, so it’s like I’m still hiding it from them,” said Clara.
“It’s still a church, until this year (2023) it’s still a church,” he continued.
However, as the saying goes ‘smart squirrel jumps will surely fall too’. Clara was unable to continue to cover up the decision to convert to Islam from her parents.
Clara’s decision to become a convert was finally revealed when she left for Umrah to Makkah.
“Until finally my mom found out a minute before me take off (depart) Umrah,” said Clara.
“That’s whether I want it or not uploadthen, yes, they finally know the phone and get angry,” he concluded.
