Clara Klingenström, who has long struggled with liking herself, thinks so.
– I get angry when I see those who have made me feel bad, she says.
2021 sang Clara Klingenström28, about a destructive relationship and the song “I don’t need you today” took fifth place in Melodifestivalen.
Now she is back.
In the song “Aldrig mer”, Klingenström sings about the self-hatred she suffered from, and sometimes still has to fight against.
– I feel incredibly sad when I look at this social image of you having to be a perfect person, you have to look perfect, all the demands around. I feel it, and I don’t want to feel it. And I certainly don’t want to be such a role model that makes others feel that way. But it’s also tough to be a person who just “okay then I’ll get up and just screw up how I look”.

The music industry is an industry that can be extra tough for the insecure, says Klingenström.
– I get angry when I see those who have made me feel bad. Role models that have made me feel bad and ugly and not enough.
She also sees how insecurity and appearance creep lower and lower with age.
– It is not okay for 13-year-olds or even younger to feel this way.
The boot to other public figures
Klingenström thinks that public figures should think about what they show outwardly.
– I think it is a responsibility that you take with you anyway as a public figure. That it will then be a good and healthy role model.

Is there a particular person you don’t think is a healthy role model?
– No, I generally just think that there should be more focus on what is inside one instead of following unhealthy ideals, says Klingenström.
Clara Klingenström: “The best I know”
Although she can still feel self-doubt, it is on stage that she feels most confident. Therefore, she is not worried about how participation in Melodifestivalen will affect her mood and view of herself.
– When I’m on stage it doesn’t exist, then it’s just me. It’s the best I know, says Clara Klingenström.
