On the 8th, according to the bereaved families of the underpass tragedy in Busan and Dong-gu, the prosecution requested an arrest warrant from two Dong-gu Office officials in connection with the Choryang Underpass Disaster.
The interrogation of the suspect before arrest (substantial examination of warrant) is scheduled to be held at the Busan District Court on the morning of the 9th.
The police investigating the case earlier turned over 6 civil servants from Dong-gu Office to the prosecution with the opinion of prosecution on charges of poorly managing the underpass (injury of negligence in business) and writing false official documents.
It is known that the prosecution, who took over the case in September of last year, has requested an arrest warrant for the two officials in charge after a reinforcement investigation.
However, the prosecution did not disclose specific allegations in relation to the warrant request and what kind of work the public official was in charge of.
The bereaved family members who have lost their families in the tragedy are expected to directly disclose their position during the actual arrest warrant examination.
During a record torrential downpour in Busan at 9:30 pm on July 23 last year, the Choryang underground roadway was submerged and 6 vehicles passing through it were trapped, killing 3 people and injuring 4 others.
Dong-gu officials have been accused of poor management of disaster preparedness facilities, such as drainage channels and electronic signs, and for not monitoring flooding or not controlling the underpass in advance.
