Claims a lot went wrong when Norway was to evacuate Afghans from Kabul

People with ties to the Taliban were flown to Norway. Many who should have been evacuated here remained in Kabul. This is what the Afghan general says to Aftenposten.

This is what it looked like inside a Norwegian Hercules plane on 26 August. The plane was carrying Afghans who had been picked up by Norway, and who were evacuated from Kabul. Several such flights went from Afghanistan to the Georgian capital Tbilisi. Here, the passengers were transferred to chartered aircraft with a course for Norway.

General Ghulam Daud Tarakhil was the first commander of the CRU, the Afghan terrorist force Norwegian soldiers trained and lived close to from 2014.

Now he has sent a letter to the Ministry of Defense, a letter Aftenposten has a copy of. In the letter, the general criticizes the process that took place when Western forces still controlled the airport in Kabul.

Norway had lists of Afghans who had worked closely with the Armed Forces and other Norwegian authorities in Afghanistan. It was feared that these could be targets for retaliatory actions by the Taliban, so the Norwegian authorities wanted to evacuate them to Norway as soon as possible.

Among these were many from the CRU.

But then something happened, the general says:

“It is worth noting that many who were evacuated to Norway as personnel from CRU were not. They were friends or relatives of (a named person in CRU, editor’s note) This should not have been done. It was a betrayal of the individuals in CRU and their families, “Daud writes to the Ministry of Defense.
