Claiming to be blackmailed by Islamic banks, Jusuf Hamka will be summoned by OJK

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will call Jusuf Hamka, toll road entrepreneur and owner of PT Citra Marga Nusaphala Persada Tbk (CMNP), who had previously stated that he was blackmailed by one of the private Islamic banks in Indonesia.

Therefore, the OJK will summon the builder of the Cilincing Crematorium Foundation and the Kim Tek Ie Petak 9 Vihara Foundation to ask for clarification on the statement he called.

Chairman of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Wimboh Santoso, said that this summons was intended to prevent this problem from dragging on and even create a bad image for national banks, especially Islamic banks.

“We will summon the person concerned to clarify whether his statement is true,” said the OJK in a written statement, quoted by CNBC Indonesia, Sunday (25/7).

OJK said that if there are customers who have problems with banks like Jusuf Hamka’s, they can complain to the OJK’s consumer protection department.

Wimboh said OJK would help mediate customer and bank problems.

CNBC Indonesia has tried to contact Jusuf Hamka via direct message on his Instagram account @jusufhamka, regarding the previous statement regarding the alleged extortion of Islamic banks, but so far there has been no response.

Previously, the Association of Indonesian Sharia Banks (Asbisindo) also spoke about the incident. Secretary General of Asbisindo Herwin Bustaman said that the polemics between customers and Islamic banks need to be underlined regarding the contents of the syndicated engagement that both of them have agreed on.

“In the process of disbursing financing, especially large-scale syndicated financing that involves many parties, of course the parties have discussed the conditions listed in the contract, including the terms of repayment before being signed by the parties,” said Herwin, quoted by Detik.com.

He said that the banking industry, including Islamic banks, is an industry that is highly regulated and puts forward the principle of prudence.

In addition, specifically for Islamic banks, they must comply with and comply with Sharia principles.

Asbisindo hopes that the current complaints can be resolved properly. In addition, his party requested that various parties have a good attitude regarding the issue.

“We also hope that we all continue to have good prejudice, because we do not know the details of the contract agreed upon by the customer and the related Islamic banks,” he said.
