It starts on September 17 Champions League in a completely new form. Instead of a group stage, there is now a league stage in which a total of 36 teams fight for promotion to the knockout stage. Champions League – 1st matchday

While the double winner from Styria faces RB Leipzig (H), Borussia Dortmund (A), Club Bruges (H), Atalanta Bergamo (A), Sporting Lisbon (H), OSC Lille (A), FC Girona ( H) and Stade Brest (A) scores, second place Salzburg has given far more difficult tasks. With the duels against Real Madrid (A) and Paris St. Germain (H) as well as Atletico Madrid (H), Bayer Leverkusen (A), Feyenoord Rotterdam (A), Dinamo Zagreb (H), Stade Brest (H) and Sparta Prague (A) the people of Mozartstadt can watch on to some special games in the fall.

Salzburg names all players who are currently injured

Both clubs have now announced their official teams for the premier class. Salzburg and head coach Pepijn Lijnders are starting the international tour with a total of 28 players. In addition to the usual Bundesliga staff, four young professionals, Valentin Oelz, Salko Hamzic, John Mellberg and Oliver Lukic, also joined the team. Liverpool loanee Stefan Bajcetic is also among those named.

The two new additions Joane Gadou and Edmund Baidoo, however, are not on the list and will not see any games on the international stage, at least in the fall. Aleksa Terzic, Daouda Guindo, Leandro Morgalla, Takumu Kawamuru, Maurits Kjaergaard and Karim Konaté all appear on the team list for the premier class.

Striker Fernando, who has yet to play a single game this season due to a thigh injury and will be out for a longer period of time, was also not named for the Champions League. As is the professional defender Oumar Solet, with whom Salzburg agreed to part in the summer after four years together. So far, however, no buyer has been found for the professional, who is willing to change and was unpleasantly noted for his lack of control last season. Recently, a move to German Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim failed in the final stage. According to media reports, the reason for this was a serious knee injury. The French defender has yet to play this season.

The non-naming of the 24-year-old is another clear sign that there are no longer any plans for him in Salzburg. For some time now he has not been training with the professionals but with the cooperation club FC Liefering. In the past four years, the centre-back has been one of Mozartstadt’s regulars and has played a total of 106 competitive games. 12 of them in the Champions League, none of which will be added this season.

Storm without Sarkaria

Coach Christian Ilzer Styrians is missing forward Manprit Sarkaria, who is willing to emigrate, from the squad for the Champions League autumn. Overall, Sturm goes to the top class with squad players. The squad lists had to be submitted to UEFA by the 36 participating clubs by Tuesday and were published on Wednesday.
