CJNG Acquires High-Tech Artillery: XM134 Minigun Machine Guns

Cotija, Michoacán.- Approximately three years ago, federal forces were informed that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel had acquired several XM134 Minigun machine guns to equip vehicles with high-tech armor.

Reports from intelligence areas infer that this artillery reinforces the security rings that protect the leader of the CJNG, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes “El Mencho.”

Since then, artillery vehicles with this weapon of war had not been seen in the offensives of that criminal organization until a few weeks ago.

Last August 2, a heavily armed group attacked Army personnel in the state of Jalisco, near the border with Cotija, Michoacán.

Federal forces were alerted to a caravan with heavily armed people, identified with the CJNG, who were walking through the municipality of Santa María del Oro, Jalisco.

The criminal cell of that criminal organization left Jilotlán and Santa María del Oro, Jalisco, towards the border with Michoacán, where they entered Cotija, Michoacán.

This led to an Army operation being implemented, but the command’s response was an attack in the mountainous area of that region.

The soldiers were ambushed and attacked with shots, in addition to having drones with explosives launched at them from different points.

In their advance, Army troops destroyed crime control and surveillance points, in addition to seizing weapons, explosives and drones.

In one of these unmanned devices, the authorities stole videos and photographs that revealed the launching of an explosive, near where the operation was going to take place.

In the images three women appear, members of the criminal cell at the service of that criminal organization, who even smile at the camera.

Among them, a young woman identified by her nickname as “Lady Drones” appears, who is, according to the recordings, the one who operates the unmanned devices.

Weeks later, on another patrol, the CJNG attacked military personnel again, but in addition to assault rifles and explosives, with an artillery team.

It is an XM134 Minigun combat machine gun, mounted on an armored truck with the most advanced technology.

The above can be seen in other images captured from another drone that the authorities secured, in camps and concentration points of the CJNG.

In a recording of a few seconds, made by residents of that southern region of the state of Jalisco, machine gun bursts can be heard from a distance.

That attack left an armed forces officer dead and a still unknown number of criminals killed, who were in the criminal convoy heading to Cotija.

The federal security source consulted indicated that these types of machine guns fire up to 3,000 projectiles per minute.

The XM134 Minigun machine gun was, until recently, only used to gun aircraft of the Armed Forces and federal forces.

Now, it is already one of the weapons of war, used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, in that attack, the first in which its lethal use has been evidenced.

The Army has reinforced its operations in that area of Jalisco, adjacent to Michoacán, to stop the advance of this criminal organization.

Two weeks after what happened, that same cartel kidnapped the municipal president of Cotija, Michoacán, Yolanda Sánchez Figueroa, in Zapopan, Jalisco.

The Michoacan mayor was released two days later by the criminal cell that had deprived her of her freedom, after leaving a luxurious Jalisco shopping center.

Reports indicate that the CJNG insists on taking over Cotija, so that it will be its front door to Tocumbo, Tingüindín, Los Reyes and Peribán, Michoacán.

Since 2019, this criminal organization has carried out armed attacks in those municipalities and others, but in the Tierra Caliente region, such as Tepalcatepec.

Their first offensives were with assault rifles and armored cars; later, with Barrett .50 caliber mounted on those vehicles known as monsters.

Later they attacked entire towns and authorities, with drones loaded with explosives and, now, with those highly armored trucks, armed with Miniguns.
