US Special Operations forces have launched a counter-terrorism operation in northwestern Syria. This was announced by the US Department of Defense.
In a short statement the Pentagon says there were no US casualties, without providing further details. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the situation in Syria from England, at least nine people have died among the civilian population, including two children.
The Syria Civil Defense rescue organization, also known as The White Helmets, told Reuters that at least 13 people were killed, including six children, in the shelling.
