The New York City Department of Administrative Services (DCAS) released its July application schedule for civil service exams.
Computer exams are administered each month for various positions.
The Computer Test and Application Centers DCAS (CTAC), where the exams are conducted, have reopened to the public. However, due to the pandemic, walk-ins are no longer accepted. Appointments must be scheduled online in the online system (OASys).
This month’s application period opened on July 7 for civil engineering intern, mechanical engineer, special officer (NYC H + H), and traffic control officer exams, among others.
The application period closes on July 27.
New York City employs hundreds of thousands of people in its 80 agencies. Taking an exam is the way to begin the hiring process for most of these positions. Application fees range from $ 40 to $ 101.
For more information on how to register for these and other tests, please log in to the DCAS website. To apply for an open civil service exam during this application period, go online through OASys at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs.
To receive monthly exam updates, subscribe to the DCAS newsletter at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs and click on the Exams tab.
Starting March 1, 2021, all exams and related notifications will be sent via email only.
The testing centers are located at 2 Lafayette St., Manhattan; 210 Joralemon St., Brooklyn; 118-35 Queens Blvd., Queens; 1932 Arthur Ave., The Bronx and 135 Canal St., Stapleton. L., Staten Island.
After an exam is administered, it typically takes nine to 12 months for an approved list to be established from which agencies can hire, according to DCAS.
DCAS said on its website that all the listings, which were originally scheduled to end between March 16, 2020 and December 31, 2020, will be extended for one year.
Additionally, the exam rosters for Police Officer, Police Communications Technician, Traffic Control Officer, and School Security Officer, which are scheduled to end between January 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, also they will last for one year.
Inquiries about the status of a list can be emailed to the City of New York City Department of Administrative Services at [email protected].
