Civil servants’ wages will be increased four times this year by 2 percent each time. This is evident from new forecasts from the Federal Planning Bureau.

The rise in government employee wages is a result of high inflation. As a result, the spindle index is exceeded much faster than normal. If the pivotal index is exceeded, social benefits and civil servants’ wages are increased.

That sign 2 percent increase in bets took place first in February, then in April and a third increase is planned for June, following the recent breach of the pivot index in April.

But according to calculations by the Planning Bureau, the benefits and wages of the civil servants will be increased a fourth time by 2 percent. After all, the bureau expects another exceedance of the pivotal index in October, a month earlier than originally planned. That means benefits in November and government employee wages would go up in December.

2023

In addition, the Planning Bureau expects that the pivotal index will be exceeded again in February 2023. That would again lead to an indexation of social benefits and civil servants’ wages by 2 percent in the following months. In the rest of 2023, there would be no more exceedances.

The Planning Bureau is also raising its expectations for annual inflation. It would be no less than 7.8 percent this year (against 7.3 percent in a previous forecast), and 3.4 percent next year.

Private

Not only the salaries of the civil servants are adjusted to the lifespan. High inflation also causes private sector wages to rise. This happens at a different pace in every sector. For some sectors this happens monthly, for others once a year.
