Civil rights: the Agenda for 2025, from the end of life, to medically assisted procreation, to prisons

ROMA – The objectives for 2025 after the National Congress ofLuca Coscioni Association for civil rights (confirmed leaders Filomena Gallo and Marco Cappato) were included in a list contained in the general motion of Congress. In a context of growing attention on civil rights, the Association will undertake to strengthen its action in crucial sectors such as the end of life, assisted fertilization, abortion and prison conditions and disability, but also scientific research.

They are themes that represent people and urgencies. “This is not a simple list of ideological points – stated Marco Cappato and Filomena Gallo – these themes represent people and their urgencies. They are topics that forcefully impose themselves and are embodied by activists, jurists and volunteers in the area. Association is a tool in the hands of those who wish to translate their needs into concrete political actions”.

End of Life

The right to choose how and when to end one’s life is at the center of the Association’s actions. In 2025, the association will support the “Liberi Subito” regional law proposals, to guarantee rapid and transparent procedures for those who wish to request voluntary medically assisted death. Nonviolent initiatives for the legalization of euthanasia will also continue, focusing on the full application of the Advance Treatment Provisions (DAT).

Assisted Reproduction

Another key objective is to ensure universal access to medically assisted procreation. The association intends to monitor the application of law 40 of 2004 and promote access to assisted reproductive techniques for all people, including same-sex couples and single people. It is also planned to extend reimbursement of expenses for gamete donations and ensure that all fertilization techniques are included in the Tariff Nomenclatures.

Abortion

The Association will continue to work to guarantee full access to voluntary termination of pregnancy (IVG). In 2025, the expansion of the “Never Data” campaign is expected, with the aim of collecting and publishing open data on the state of application of law 194, so that the Minister of Health respects the obligation to report annually to Parliament. Furthermore, the association will work to improve access to the pharmacological procedure for IVG and to guarantee the availability of prostaglandin for self-administration at home.

Prisons

Finally, the Association aims to promote the right to health in prisons. Institutional and public initiatives will be continued to ensure that the 102 ASLs respect the rights of prisoners in all 189 Italian penitentiaries. It is essential that every person, regardless of their status, can access adequate and dignified health services.

Other Objectives

In addition to the priority themes, the Luca Coscioni Association also aims to:

1) – Research on Embryos and Rare Diseases: Supporting scientific research and promoting access to new therapies.

2) – Plant Biotechnology and Cultivated Meat: Promote policies that foster innovation and sustainability in the food sector.

3) – Right to Science: Defending every individual’s right to access science and its applications.

4) – Mental Health: Guarantee the right to mental health and promote access to adequate services.

5) – Disability and Inclusion: Adoption by Municipalities of plans to eliminate architectural barriers.
