CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal: 10% of future attendants abandoned rapid training

MONTREAL | Health Minister Christian Dubé was clear on Thursday when he said the health network has six weeks to prepare for a possible second wave of COVID-19.

The Integrated University Health and Social Services Center (CIUSSS) de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal will, in addition to the short delay, have to deal with the fact that 10% of future beneficiary attendants have abandoned the rapid three-month training.

This is nothing to worry about, according to François Lemire, who is director of the Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry training center, located in the district of Saint-Léonard.

“We have about 10% dropout of all our students, which is still very good because there are other courses, sometimes, where the dropout rates go to 30-40%” , said Mr. Lemire in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.

Last spring, no less than 80 of the 156 residents of the Éloria-Lepage CHSLD in Montreal were infected with the coronavirus. Of that number, 30 residents died.

“For the 15 CHSLDs, these are nearly 500 deaths. But for the East-Island, it was 700 deaths of elderly people ”, indicated Claude Riendeau, director of support for autonomy at the CIUSSS de l’Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. .

To avoid reliving such a tragedy, management is doing everything to ensure that COVID-19 does not re-enter establishments.

Very strict hygiene measures are applied. A director will also be appointed in each establishment.

“We had some that covered two centers. But, there, we will have a manager in each of the CHSLDs, ”explained Mr. Riendeau.

In the coming weeks, the 900 or so employees called in by Prime Minister François Legault will complete their training and join the teams in place.

Among them, we find Anne-Geneviève Éthier.

“I love that. I would say it’s a job that I think I really see myself doing for a long time, ”said the 19-year-old student.

The young woman does not intend to give up. On the contrary, she explains that thanks to her training, she was able to discover what the elderly really represent.

“They are the ones who give me joy when I do my job,” she said.
