Update on the Philly Vax Giveaway and Dr. Bettigole’s Open Letter on the COVID Delta Variant
PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Department of Public Health reported today that 14,711 additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered since the last report on Thursday, June 17, 2021. This brings the total number of fully vaccinated city residents to at least 693,885, and the number of Philadelphia residents with at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at 874,278. Currently, 55.9% of Philadelphia adults are fully vaccinated, and 70.4% of city adults have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Get vaccinated in the Unity Cup draw: On Tuesday, June 22, members of the public can receive their COVID-19 vaccination at the 2021 Unity Cup raffle event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lloyd Hall Recreation Center. Everyone 12 years and older is eligible and people do not need an appointment and the vaccine is free.
Philly Counts, the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Office of Immigrant Affairs and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health commit to outreach on the importance of vaccination at Unity Cup events during the summer months, in order to provide our immigrant community with not only the information and tools they need to make an informed decision about the COVID-19 vaccine, but also to make the vaccine even more accessible to them.
The Unity Cup is a World Cup-style tournament that will take place over several months, with the opening match scheduled to begin on Friday, August 27. The Unity Cup unites the city’s neighborhoods and celebrates the diverse immigrant communities through soccer.
Philly Vax Sweepstakes Winners: The first Philly Vax sweepstakes drawing was held today, picking twelve potential winners, six from the selected zip code: 19126, and the University of Pennsylvania team is contacting the winners by phone, email, and mail to check your vaccination status. As a reminder, if a selected winner has not received their vaccine at the time of the drawing, they will not be eligible for the incentive. In that case, another name will be drawn and the process will begin again. The City expects to announce the winners at an event later this week.
Second draw of Philly Vax: In order to continue the Philly Vax drawings, the team has randomly selected another of the least vaccinated ZIP codes in Philadelphia to be the ZIP code that will enter the second drawing. The zip code selected for the second drawing of the Philly Vax contest is 19133. On Tuesday, July 6, twelve entries will be chosen, six from the 19133 zip code and six from the rest of the city. The prize breakdown for the second drawing is the same as for the first drawing: two $ 50,000 winners, four $ 5,000 winners, and six $ 1,000 winners, divided between the selected zip code and the rest of the city. Philadelphia residents are encouraged to get vaccinated if they haven’t already done so to be eligible to win. Residents of code 19133 are especially encouraged to get vaccinated because their chances of winning are greater.

The best way to protect yourself against the Delta variant is to fully vaccinate against COVID-19, receiving both doses of the vaccine.
