City of Zurich ZH: Traffic regulations and fireworks on New Year’s Eve

For the implementation of the “New Year’s Eve Magic 2022” from Saturday, December 31, 2022 to Sunday, January 1, 2023, the Zurich municipal police issues temporary traffic regulations for the city center and the lower lake basin.

It is forbidden to light fireworks on the festival grounds.

The Magic New Year’s Eve in Zurich will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2022. For this reason, in the area around the lower lake basin in the center of Zurich, but also on Lake Zurich in the city area, there will be temporary restrictions on the traffic. These last from Saturday 31 December 2022, 3:00 to Sunday 1 January 2023, around 12:00.

For safety reasons, the lighting of private fireworks is prohibited in the night between 31 December 2022 and 1 January 2023, from 18:00 to 06:00, in accordance with the order of the security department . This applies in particular to the festival area, around the lower lake basin, along the Limmat from the lake to the Rathausbrücke and in the Sechseläutenplatz area.

To draw attention to the fireworks prohibition zone, signs referencing the ban have been erected at key points in the city, as well as in and around the festival grounds.

The municipal police and the organizer will carry out checks during the event. Anyone who lights or launches fireworks in the restricted area can be fined or prosecuted, depending on the nature of the incident. Fireworks can be seized in advance by the police.

Details on land and water traffic regulation, as well as the fireworks prohibition zone plan can be found in the documents “Magic New Year 2022 Traffic Restriction”, plans “Magic New Year 2022 Exclusion Zone”, “Safety of Magic New Year’s Area 2022” and the floor “Prohibition Area Fireworks Magic New Year 2022”.
