What a furious start to the Wedel Music Days! Once again it was “Wedel sings!” – and once again it turned into a happy music party. Singer Lara Kriegesmann and presenter, motivator, cheerleader, entertainer, keyboard player and of course singer Sören Schröder celebrated a song festival in Hall 4 of the Hamburg marina with around 1000 guests who themselves became actors.
It is always fascinating how Sören Schröder manages to take the audience along with him. After just a few seconds, a relaxed atmosphere was floating through the hall, which dispelled any possible reservations about embarrassing one’s own singing ability with possibly off-key notes.
Unfortunately, it is clear that in our society singing, especially in a choir, is no longer practiced as freely and has less importance than it used to – the decline in choirs, which most recently succumbed to the “Spitzerdorf-Schulauer Männergesangverein” in Wedel after almost 150 years of concerts, is an example of this. Even though there are more and more formats on TV in which even talentless characters give sub-par performances in order to become Germany’s superstar, and even though the castings attract tens of thousands of people, despite the risk of being humiliated by Dieter Bohlen later on, the majority of people in this country consume music rather passively, apart from singing in the shower or drunk at Ballermann festivities.
It is precisely this sad trend towards passivity that “Wedel sings!” works against. Whether it’s Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” or Nena’s “99 Luftballons”, Udo Lindenberg’s “Komet” or “Yesterday” by the Beatles and many more – the singers joined in. And perhaps after this evening, one or the other will think about experiencing such joy not just once, but perhaps more often in one of the city’s choirs that are happy to welcome new members.
Speaking of being happy: the mood was also good among the club’s players Child happiness and the art of living and the campaign “People Helping People” of the German Red Cross. The Rotary Club had sponsored the concert – proceeds will benefit the charitable organizations.
Until 22 September, the Wedel Music Days will be offering a varied programme – here you can see what you can still register for Get tickets can.
