City of Salzburg – Continuous rain: Currently no risk of flooding in the city of Salzburg

Some bicycle underpasses closed – only minor operations by the professional fire brigade

As Deputy Fire Director Werner Kloiber reports, despite the persistent rain, there is currently no risk of flooding in the city of Salzburg. “Due to the lowering of the dam at the Lehen power plant, we are currently seeing a falling water level in the Salzach. The current forecast also points in this direction. The professional fire brigade has already had small operations at private cellars and continues to monitor the streams, especially on the slopes of the Gaisberg. Small overflows and further operations are possible because the ground is already very saturated.”

After the reporting limit of the Salzach was temporarily reached at the Nonntaler Brücke measuring point at around 3 a.m. – this was triggered by the opening of several Innergebirg power plants – the Lehener Brücke cycle underpass on the Salzach was closed in the morning hours in consultation with the Construction Directorate. The Alterbach/Itzlinger Hauptstrasse and Glan/Aribonenstrasse cycle underpasses and the cycle paths along the Söllheimer Bach are also closed.

These closures will remain in place for the time being.
