In the coming year, more public parking spaces are to be reserved for residents in Offenbach. As announced by the city, residents’ park districts are being expanded or redesignated in several parts of the city. The magistrate recently decided that, and the city parliament has issued a corresponding decision in principle.
The background to this is the increasing number of residents: inside and registered cars and the resulting “nerve-wracking search for a parking space” for locals. Commuters are excluded from the regulation. “The city and its residents suffer from heavy traffic, so commuters should switch to public transport if possible,” said City Councilor Paul Gerhard-Weiß (FDP). In around 70 percent of public parking spaces within a resident parking area, the maximum parking time from Monday to Saturday between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. is limited to two hours. With a resident parking permit, which is tied to the place of residence, the limit does not apply.
The remaining parking spaces should also be available to everyone in the future. According to the city, there will be new residents’ park districts in the Westend in the future, as well as in the streets around Buchrainweg north of the Taunusring. In addition, the districts in Mathildenviertel, Senefelderquartier, Musikerviertel and Lindenfeld will be enlarged, according to the administration.
In future, restrictions are to apply to a total of around 1,450 additional parking spaces. The area around the Ketteler Hospital on Buchhügel remains an exception for the time being. The regulation should only take effect here when a location for a hospital employee parking space has been found. According to the city, the costs for expanding the residents’ park districts amount to around 89,000 euros. The work is to be put out to tender and awarded at the beginning of 2022. jon
