City of Medebach presents draft budget for 2025

The 2024 financial year is going better for the city of Medebach than feared. Mayor Thomas Grosche announced this when asked by Radio Sauerland. The city is currently benefiting particularly from the higher income from trade tax. It is said that the city will not have to take on any new debt for 2025, despite many investments.

Due to the higher trade tax, the city has around 2 million euros more available in its budget this year. The city’s budget is in deficit this year by almost three million euros (expected to be 2,969,300 euros). According to the city, this could be offset by the equalization reserve of almost seven million euros. This cash reserve for the city of Medebach is expected to last until 2028, according to Mayor Grosche. There is no need to incur any debt until then.

Budget for 2025

The city estimates tax revenue for 2025 to be lower than in 2024. Instead of around 23.1 million euros, around 21.5 million euros will still be available. This is due, among other things, to the lower trade tax (4.25 million instead of 5.4 million). In addition, the district levy that the city has to pay to the Hochsauerlandkreis is increasing (8.9 million instead of 7.8 million). The city wants to invest widely next year. Money should flow into broadband provision and the fire department, among other things. But construction projects that are already underway will also be continued. This includes, for example, the construction of cycle paths or village renewal. Medebach does not have to take on any new debt for the planned investments. The money comes from the city’s compensation reserve, said Mayor Grosche.
