Michèle Rubirola, mayor (EELV) of Marseille announced her resignation on Tuesday, December 15. The seat of the mayor of Marseille should not remain empty for long because his first deputy (PS) Benoit Payan is officially a candidate to succeed him. She also said she wanted to occupy the function of first deputy, an exchange of functions in short.
Asked about the resignation of the mayor, David Cormand admits that the Socialist Party used environmentalists to win the town hall of Marseilles. He maintains that “the Socialist Party and Benoît Payan would have been unable to be elected mayor of Marseille”. The MEP is ironic when he recognizes “A victory on the green carpet” of the Socialist Party. However, he did not see it as a waste. On the contrary, he salutes the outgoing mayor who has allowed a political alternation.
Recalling that environmentalists supported, in the first round, an environmentalist list with Sébastien Barles, current deputy mayor of Marseille for the ecological transition, he affirms that environmentalists “had clearly seen that behind the screen of the Marseille Spring, there were maneuvers which we are used to. In politics, there is the dirty side and the bright side. I prefer to keep the bright side ”.
