City of Linz promotes participation in holiday activities for children

LINZ. The city of Linz is promoting participation in holiday campaigns again this year. Children from financially weak families are supported.

Funding from the city of Linz is intended to enable children from financially weaker families to take part in holiday campaigns this year as well. “The Corona crisis is often a major challenge, especially for the youngest in our society. Contact with peers is an irreplaceable necessity for children’s development. However, the financial situation of a child’s family of origin should not decide whether or not to participate in a holiday campaign, ”says Linz’s vice mayor and social affairs officer Karin Hörzing (SPÖ).

22,000 euros in funding

A total of 22,000 euros are available to encourage participation in holiday campaigns. The deductible for families is 50 or 100 euros, depending on financial and socio-educational criteria. In exceptional cases, social workers can also waive the deductible. In 2019, more than 40 children took part in the campaign, and 22,000 euros were paid out in total. Last year, 16,000 euros were spent on 32 children.
