Hanauer Parkhaus GmbH will be testing barrier-free parking in the Kinopolis 1 and 2 car parks from October 23rd

From Wednesday, October 23rd, “barrier-free parking” will be tested for the first time in Hanau in the Kinopolis and Kinopolis 2 car parks of Hanau Parkhaus GmbH (HPG).

With this new system, there is no need to take out a parking ticket when entering the parking garage; instead, a camera records the license plate number of the entering car and displays it on a screen. When you leave, a camera records the license plate again. The scanned data will be deleted immediately after payment and departure. Long-term tenants of parking spaces are automatically recognized.

“Our goal is to offer people the greatest possible comfort when visiting Hanau, so that their stay remains pleasant and stress-free. When parking in the city’s parking garages, this means keeping waiting times when entering and at the parking machines as short as possible,” explains the chairwoman of the supervisory board of Hanau Parkhaus GmbH, city councilor Isabelle Hemsley. In the past few months, HPG has already implemented several user-friendly innovations in the parking garages. Parking tickets can now be conveniently paid for using a mobile phone at the “digital pay station”, and all displays in the parking guidance system have been converted to LED lighting.

There are two ways to pay the parking fee for barrier-free parking. On the one hand, users can, as before, pay in cash, with a debit or credit card at the machine. The parking fee due is calculated after entering the license plate number. On the other hand, a QR code posted in the parking garages can be scanned with a smartphone. This leads to the page of the digital pay station, where the parking fee can be paid by credit card (Visa and MasterCard), ApplePay, GooglePay and Sepa Direct.

If you forget to pay before leaving, you can leave the car park without paying. A display at the exit shows a corresponding warning. In this case, the license plate is saved and drivers can pay their parking fee online within 48 hours via the Hanauer Parkhaus GmbH website (www.parken-hanau.de). If the fee is not paid after these 48 hours, the outstanding claims will be forwarded to a service provider who will claim the amount at an increased fee.

“Barrier-free parking is a convenience gain and is being implemented in more and more cities around the world. By implementing this offer in two parking garages in Hanau, we will test in everyday operation how well the system works and where improvements may still need to be made,” says Isabelle Hemsley. In the future, it is planned to remove the barriers in all other HPG car parks. The most important technology in the form of license plate scanners is already available in almost all locations.

The demand for parking spaces in Hanau’s multi-storey car parks and underground car parks is constantly increasing. In the first nine months of 2024, a total of around 1.5 million short-term parkers parked in the city’s parking structures, around 75,200 more than in the previous year.
