The federal sports organization Sport Austria calls for schools and sports clubs to be opened at the same time, as well as for Covid-19 tests made available free of charge by the state to all 15,000 sports clubs in Austria. Vice Mayor and Sports Officer Christian Deleja-Hotko (SPÖ) supports these concerns.
According to Sport Austria, the advocacy and service organization of organized sport in Austria, 2.1 million people were organized in the 15,000 sports clubs in Austria before the corona crisis. Relaxation steps for organized sport and for the local sports clubs are urgently needed, since many members have been lost since the beginning of the crisis.
Test results should also apply to sports
The 62,600 primary school children in Upper Austria returned to face-to-face classes on Monday. In middle schools, the AHS lower level and in polytechnic schools, teaching is carried out in shifts on site. According to Sport Austria, club sports should be ramped up when schools open. Exercise in sports in a sports club – especially sports with a low risk of infection, such as outdoor sports – should be allowed again with a corresponding minimum distance and in compliance with all prescribed hygiene measures and prevention concepts regardless of additional tests when starting school. In addition to the existing prevention concepts (hygiene, distance, small groups, etc.), it should be possible to carry out antigen self-tests in sports clubs, which are provided free of charge by the state. There is also a demand that in future tests from the test streets also apply to the sports sector.
Earlier payment of sports funding
“The demands of Sport Austria are supported by the municipality of Enns, as they represent a good opportunity to strengthen popular sport in our municipality and to enable a secure start of the training sessions urgently needed for everyone in this time ravaged by Corona. This is also intended to promote exercise and, as a result, to keep the population healthy, ”said Vice Mayor and Sports Advisor Christian Deleja-Hotko, who supports the cause of Sport Austria. As financial advisor, he will apply at the coming municipal council meeting to bring the sports funding forward for 2020 and to pay it out earlier.
Training start depends on several factors
“We know from the first lockdown that the average child comes back with at least two to three kilos more on their ribs. How many stop, we can’t say yet. A migration to other sports is expected, ”says ESK chairman Johann Trauner. The club is in favor of the earliest possible training start, which in practice depends on several factors (which safety distance is necessary, the possibility of group training, permitted group size, what can be trained how) and of course the weather. Gregor Minichberger, the chairman of ETV Enns, can make friends with certain points in the Sport Austria’s demand. “I like the idea that tests from the test streets also apply to sports, and I don’t see any problems in implementing this in the club. The ETV Enns has not yet lost any members. That speaks for our club atmosphere, “says Minichberger.
