City of Cologne to Coca Cola Continuation

Cologne | “What a fat it is a fat thing,” is how those who believe in the Cologne Basic Law write it in paragraph 4. The press release from the head of the economic department, Andree Haack, about the closure of the Coca Cola location in Cologne reads almost like this. However, he admonishes the company management with regard to the employees.

Is the water in Kölle not so good after all, could be a second piece of wisdom that could be drawn from the departure of Coca Cola. But all of this is speculation. What is clearer is that the location in Cologne Ossendorf will be given up by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) in 2025.

Report-K reported

The city states that of the 602 jobs in Cologne, 289 are now to be cut and the other employees will work at other locations. The head of the Cologne economic department, Andree Haack, wrote to the people of Cologne: “We very much regret this decision and expect that the company will strive for socially acceptable and amicable solutions with the employees. However, I am confident that the placement of workers can be achieved quickly because the shortage of skilled workers is particularly high here in the industrial and commercial-technical sectors and companies are looking for staff. We are happy to offer personal exchange and any support we can. The departure of the global corporation and the Coca-Cola brand is an immense loss for our industrial location. Even though Cologne has a highly diversified economic structure, industry and production contribute significantly to local added value and secure thousands of jobs in Cologne and the region. This development shows how essential it is, even in a large city like Cologne, to maintain existing commercial and industrial space for the further development of production companies.”

Haack leaves open what he did as head of the economic department to prevent the closure in advance. Or the city-owned Köln-Business GmbH. Because Coca Cola invests in other locations, but not in Cologne.
