With the German Diversity Day, the Charter of Diversity sets an example for inclusion and the appreciation of diversity in the workplace. The City of Cologne and some of its subsidiaries have also signed the Diversity Charter and have set out to strengthen diversity in companies and in their workforces. For this reason, they commit together Tuesday, May 23, 2023the 11th German Diversity Day.
On the day of action, the city administration and the municipal companies will present and honor the diversity in their houses with a short video. A recurring pictorial element is the “Diversity Bank”, which was built by young people from the Cologne education model (KöBi) on the training campus of the Cologne Chamber of Crafts. The model supports adults aged 25 and over who are in a phase of unemployment. The bright colors of the bank are a symbol of diversity. “In Cologne we are committed to the participation of all people who live here and to fighting exclusion and discrimination. Diversity broadens horizons; it requires mutual respect, but also demands personal decision and determination. The acceptance of diversity is a prerequisite for active and equal participation. I’m proud that we work on it every day in Cologne. The city administration and its subsidiaries are setting an example with the Cologne Chamber of Crafts,” says Mayor Henriette Reker.
“Craft meets diversity: We are very happy about this first-time and special cooperation with the city of Cologne on the occasion of Diversity Day. Diversity, especially in professional and working life, opens up new perspectives and opportunities and is absolutely worthy of support. The finished bench is a great team effort that shows that diversity, both large and small, has its place in our society,” explains Garrelt Duin, Managing Director of the Cologne Chamber of Crafts.
The video will be shared on Diversity Day via the social media channels of the City of Cologne and its subsidiaries.
In addition to other internal campaigns, the city of Cologne and its subsidiaries are once again raising the flag for diversity. The diversity flag, which stands for equal opportunities in the workplace, is hoisted at locations throughout the city. In addition to the city administration, the AVG waste disposal and recycling company Cologne mbH, the waste management company Cologne GmbH, the Cologne baths GmbH, the Cologne transport company AG, the RheinEnergie AG, the municipal works Cologne GmbH, the clinics of the city of Cologne gGmbH and the job center in Cologne. The Regional Association of the Rhineland and the Festival Committee of the Cologne Carnival from 1823 eV are also taking part. For the first time, the Chamber of Crafts in Cologne is also taking part in the joint flag campaign.
On the evening of the 11th German Diversity Day, Kölner Sportstätten GmbH and RheinEnergie will make the RheinEnergieStadion shine in rainbow colors as a sign of diversity.
