Last week, the city of Süßen honored ten committed citizens at a celebratory event who made a valuable contribution to the well-being of society through their numerous blood donations. In total, the honorees donated blood 265 times, providing around 133 liters of this precious elixir of life.
In Germany, around 15,000 liters of blood are needed every day – be it for accident victims, operations or the treatment of serious illnesses. Blood donations are therefore an indispensable component of medical care. “Blood is life,” emphasized Mayor Kersting, who carried out the honors together with Peter Hofelich, district association president of the German Red Cross Göppingen, and Stefan Witzani, deputy chairman of the DRK Göppingen. “Blood donors give people in need a second chance – a gift that is priceless.”
The honored blood donors received badges of honor and other small gifts as a sign of recognition for their regular donations. Particular attention was paid to Siegfried Mairich, who set an impressive example of selfless commitment with 75 blood donations. Mayor Kersting warmly thanked everyone present and emphasized: “You show true humanity and help save lives. Every drop counts.”
