Würzburg. In recent times there has been an increasing number of questions: “What about the city festival in Würzburg in September?” Now one thing is certain: As in 2020, it will be due to the pandemic.

As stated in the announcement of the city marketing association “Würzburg is fun”, it was clear that there could not have been a “normal” city festival in 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic and current case law. “But the developments at the beginning of summer gave us reason to hope to be able to hold our Würzburg City Festival on September 17th and 18th in a reduced version,” says managing director Wolfgang Weier looking back. In the past few months, planning and rescheduling, concepts developed, discarded and newly created, always in exchange and with the support of the Würzburg approval authorities.
Weier emphasized that the decision was not made easy. But “unfortunately, the still uncertain and incalculable situation, the currently increasing incidence figures and the likely extension of the epidemic situation of national scope beyond September 11th force us to cancel the city festival in smaller versions”.
The health and safety of all parties involved has top priority, the communication continues. It is therefore clear: “Better not at all this year and go back next year.” In 2022, the celebrations will take place on Friday, September 16, and on Saturday, September 17.

The event has been organized since 1988 by “Würzburg is fun”. After 2001 and 2020 it is now the third time that the city festival is canceled. pm
