“City Cycling” campaign in Wedel promotes sustainable transportation and aims for record-breaking kilometers cycled

The city of Wedel is at it again “City Cycling” and wants to promote more sustainability in transport. For 21 days should as many as possible everyday ways with the Rad be done. This year, too, Wedel Marketing will be responsible for the coordination with the support of the ADFC (Der Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club) Wedel and the Stadtsparkasse Wedel as a renewed sponsor. Participation is very easy.

To the “City Cycling” campaign

Since 2008, the “Stadtradeln” campaign has invited representatives from politics and the population to get (or switch) to bicycles in their communities. The campaign runs from May 29th to June 18th. The participating municipalities then select 21 consecutive days for their participation during this period. At the end, the kilometers cycled are counted and the best municipalities are awarded in three different categories.

Start with an astronomical tour

At the start on Tuesday, May 30th, the city of Wedel will be reaching for the stars. Wedel Marketing organizes a tour of around ten kilometers along the planetary educational trail, along the dyke to Neptune and back. A small joint tour is planned with Veit Krasnicki (Mobility Manager/City of Wedel), the representatives of the Wedeler Au Regional Park and Dr. Stephan Bakan, who will also take over the planetary trail tours this year.

On the bike tour, which lasts around 90 minutes, the participants can look forward to fascinating information about our solar system. At the same time, the information boards on the planetary educational trail, newly designed by Wedel Marketing, will be inaugurated with this official tour.

The meeting point is the “Sonne” on Deichstraße with a start time of 5.30 p.m. On the way back, a stop is made at the ferryman’s sand to end the evening with a small picnic (with self-sufficiency). Participants who cannot be there for the start at 5.30 p.m. can also join at 7 p.m. at the ferryman’s sand.

Will Wedel break the record again?

Last year, the people of Wedel avoided around 16 tons of CO2 by cycling 103,688 kilometers. “Our goal is to break the 100,000 kilometer mark for the third time in a row this year and to mobilize new cycling enthusiasts with the planetary educational trail kick-off tour right at the start of city cycling,” says Alexander Fröschke from Wedel Marketing. The ADFC Wedel also offers other attractive tours that will contribute to the overall result.

And this is how you participate

• Under www.stadtradeln.de/wedel All participants can register, join an existing team in their municipality or set up their own team. A person who creates a new team is automatically the team captain.

• Cycling without a team is not possible, because climate protection and cycling promotion are teamwork – but two people are a team! Alternatively, you can join the “Open Team” that exists in every municipality. Anyone who has not yet found any active team members by the end of the kilometer add-on period (km entries are decisive) will automatically be included in the open team of the municipality.

• Enter the kilometers you have cycled in your km book on the website or you can use the city cycling app and have the kilometers tracked directly during the journey.
