The Garachico City Council continues to seek funding for the old San Francisco convent. Although the belfry, the north patio and the rear of the building have already been finished, now it is the turn of the south patio and the electrical installation.
These are the intentions of the mayor of the municipality, Heriberto González, who has said that there are “different approaches” regarding the future use of the old convent. Both the architect of the project, Roque Hernández, and the mayor himself have made it clear that the actions in the building are expensive: “The belfry, the rear and accessibility have been more than 800,000 euros”, has quantified.
The mayor of Garachica considers that the Daute room “does not need practically anything and the treatment of the wood can be carried out by the City Council,” he says in order to save some costs. Everything will depend on the use that you want to give the old convent.
González is looking to act in the south patio and renovate the electrical installation. Nevertheless, the master plan designed also talks about the transfer of the archive, the treatment of the wood or the modification of the Daute room. For the first mayor, “It is necessary to see if the master plan should be carried out or not, depending on the future use of the building ”, he reiterated to this newspaper.
