SPD Darmstadt: “Experienced school specialist” wants to become a city councilor

Pfenning is a member of both the Waldems municipal council and the Rheingau-Taunus district council. There she is chairwoman of the district committee for youth, education and social affairs, chairwoman of the SPD Waldems and deputy chairwoman of the SPD Rheingau-Taunus.

The SPD parliamentary group leader Marquardt said that the Darmstadt SPD wanted to use Pfenning to “bring an experienced school specialist to Darmstadt” who was very familiar with the diverse challenges faced by schools and families. For many years she has shown “a passionate commitment to Hesse’s children, young people and parents”. For Darmstadt, her readiness to run is “a great opportunity,” said Marquardt.

SPD advocates building seven new schools in Darmstadt

Pfenning said that, as the head of the school department, she would take a closer look at the issue of health and establish health professionals in all schools. In view of the corona crisis and the negative effects on children, more should be invested in school psychology. She also wants to devote herself to building a new school. Darmstadt needs five new primary schools and two secondary schools.

Referring to the relevant information from the SPD parliamentary group chairman, Pfenning said that the city had “unfortunately overslept” in the past ten years to submit a complete school development plan, which, according to the Hessian School Act, must take place every five years.

FDP Darmstadt: “City council election is an act of realpolitik”

The FDP chairman, Leif Blum, accused the SPD of organizing “a useless political bogeyman for the election of a department”.

The election is “an act of realpolitik” because a political official is elected by the majority. “This is how personal government formation works everywhere,” says Blum.
