Aldermen Gea van Essen and Jeltje Hoekstra announced in the council meeting tonight that they do not feel supported enough by the city council to continue to do their work. Acting mayor Roel Cazemier then suspended the meeting.
Bully
Van Essen accuses the council on the island, consisting of eleven members, of behaving like a ‘bully’ towards the aldermen. That writes Omrop Fryslân. “We have had a tough time with the administrative crisis,” said the resigned councilor. “But apparently the poison cup is not yet empty for you. You do not grant the aldermen any recovery time. And a well-functioning new council has no start-up time. You are being too harsh in this.”
According to her colleague Hoekstra, the difficulties started after the breach of trust with Mayor Van de Pol.
To Castricum
Van de Pol had to leave the field after she interrupted a council meeting on Terschelling last December to take up a position as mayor in Castricum by telephone. Her behavior caused a stir in the council.
Van de Pol resigned from the position in Castricum at the beginning of this year for health reasons.
