City Break at the Mark Hotel New York or when the French Touch meets the Big Apple

The Mark single-handedly inaugurated a new category of hotel in New York where it reigns supreme. Vibrant, arty, chic, festive, beautiful, delicious, soothing, endearing, he’s (almost) a real character! An establishment that has become legendary for its unique lifestyle and its unparalleled guest list. A five-star getaway in the heart of winter.

An unidentified hotel object, The Mark stands out against the New York skyline. His art of welcoming takes us everywhere, except in an impersonal establishment, which can be duplicated with a few local nuances from one country to another. After your transatlantic flight, you have this sweet feeling of having put down your trunks in the posh residence of a precious friend. Here, everything is thought out so that you have nothing else to do but connect with the Big Apple, with its incredible energy, with the beauty of the moment. This goes through a thousand and one attentions characterized by real spontaneity.

Like an exchange with the head waiter or one of the charismatic doormen (porters) which often turns into a meaningful conversation embellished with a good dose of humour. The staff at the Mark Hotel have the same chemistry as that of a certain iconic hit series in the city, Friends. An ideal casting with a little Frenchie dominant. Often considered the ambassador of the French art of living, the address located on the Upper East Side (renamed “Silk Stocking District” by New Yorkers), has been the meeting place for the most prominent personalities for 90 years.

Impossible to return to the guestbook exhaustively. In 2023, this is still the place to see and be seen. Renew your wedding, organize an event during Fashion Week, a meeting on the sidelines of the annual general assembly of the UN, shoot a cinematographic sequence and, more “modestly”, have a gourmet dinner or have your hair done by the Hair Stylist of the First Nations ladies, Frederic Fekkai.

Here we go again, whatever you do, you will be starred! In the city of excess, let’s play it local and assume it!

Everything is therefore carefully studied. The scenography of the premises by Jacques Grange takes us to another dimension: a polished floor with graphic lines in black and white topped with a “Ge-Off Sphere” suspension by Ron Arad sets the scene. Every detail is a piece of art and could have its place in a gallery or in one of the museums of the megalopolis. Like this “Jarre” table designed by Eric Schmitt, these revisited Cigar Lounge armchairs with steel armrests, these contemporary works adorning the walls and furniture.

All glamorized by flashy colors. A great lesson in design from Jacques Grange, to whom The Mark entrusted the renovation in 2009. From Cheval Blanc to Saint-Barthélémy via numerous Italian Palazzos, the architect brightens up the interiors with his multicolored palette.

The 106 rooms, including 46 suites and a penthouse elected as the most luxurious in the United States… just that, promise luxury, calm and pleasure. Thick carpet, shades of white and ivory, palatial bedding, floral arrangements, it’s a world of softness that envelops you once you walk through the door. As you go, you notice those quirky little touches sprinkled throughout the pieces, like those popping yellow cookies that replicate a New York taxi and a subway map. A courtesy tray as Instagrammable as it is delicious!

The bathroom, covered in Italian marble from floor to ceiling, conceals visual details such as this celadon green cabinet which clashes with the immaculate white.

We also dwell on the magnificent amenities specially made in Italy by the La Bottega brand. Pretty designs adorn the bottles as if they had just been scribbled on in pencil. Subtly, The Mark Hotel reminds you that here, it is not elsewhere… Indeed, even if you do not stay there, you also remember that the establishment houses the largest suite in the country with an area of 1,000 m² (770 m² indoors and 230 m² terrace). Deployed on the 16th and 17th floors, the Penthouse has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, four fireplaces, a gigantic living room with eight meters high ceilings which can be transformed into a reception room.

As for the rooftop, it offers a breathtaking 360° view. His price ? 66,430 euros per night. Not enough to deter the many corporate or private customers who love to stay there for long stays.

At the Mark Hotel, one can live a multitude of experiences exclusive to the hotel. Want to redo your look to take the fold of the other capital of fashion? Take a seat at the Frédéric Fekkai hair salon, the most fashionable hairdresser in the city. At the head of an empire, the Frenchman lives the American dream and pampers the most famous heads. He is committed to forming a fine team of caring people when he travels the world. Champion of a certain “feminine empowerment”, Frédéric Fekkai translates it into a capillary approach that takes into account the client’s silhouette and personality. You who have never questioned this compatibility, let the magic happen… The result is stunning!

Before going for a walk in the streets of New York for your perfect blow-dry, we sit down at the Michelin-starred restaurant Mark by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The All-Manhattan canteen suits all palates with its eclectic menu featuring melodious flavors. From the Sushi plate concocted according to the rules of the art to the Maine lobster, through the signature Foie gras or the Truffle cheeseburger, all the dishes invite you on a wonderful culinary journey between delicacy and terroir. Originally from Strasbourg, JGV as it is called here, has no equal when it comes to exporting its French Touch from breakfast to dinner.

We ask for more even when we are out! The Mark has wisely imagined picnic baskets signed Jean-Georges to accompany us on the adventure. Lose yourself in Central Park located two blocks away for a moment out of time… The green lung of the city vibrates with the energy of its inhabitants who find themselves there at the slightest opportunity: morning jogging, end-of-day yoga, soccer or Frisbee games, religious or philosophical sermons…Artists are also everywhere, mimes, musicians, painters, dancers…You can find everything, even getting used to the most unusual scenes.
