City anniversary: New film is supposed to polish up Malchin’s image

Malchin wants to become more interesting from a tourist point of view. The past year has shown that more people came to the region. This trend should not die down even after the Corona times. The city decided to polish up its image. A new film aims to arouse curiosity about Malchin – the city on two lakes. For the city’s birthday, the film premiered in the town hall on Wednesday evening. In the approximately three-minute clip, not only were pictures – partly from a bird’s eye view – to be seen from the most beautiful corners of the city, but also three Malchiners had their say. Interview partners were Torsten Gertz, chairman of the Heimatverein, entrepreneur Fritz Schnepf and Peene-Café owner Robert Drewes.

Tourist Information initially has 200 USB sticks

In the next few days, the film will be posted on Facebook and on the city’s website, said city councilor Manuela Rißer. It is available on a USB stick from the tourist information office. First 200 USB sticks were delivered to the tourist information, it said.

The film was produced by André König from Güstrow. For the 37-year-old filmmaker, it was a beautiful job that he really enjoyed. That’s how he got to know Malchin better. “It’s a very nice town,” he said to the Nordkurier. So far he has only known the place from football, the truck meeting in Hainholz or from driving through the B 104. He only really knew the city now. You have nice corners. Although Malchin was badly damaged after the war, it felt like the city fathers would have made something good out of their place.

Filmed different seasons

The Güstrower shot about nine months in Malchin in order to be able to take seasonal pictures of the city – of winter and summer, with sunny and overcast skies. He developed his film together with Manuela Rißer, who showed him relevant objects and also conducted the interviews. So he was able to concentrate fully on his work with the camera.

Regret over small frame

Judging by the applause, the city officials apparently liked the film and thought it was a nice present for the city’s birthday. Mayor Axel Müller found it a shame that Malchin was unable to celebrate his 785th anniversary with the citizens. In times of pandemics, only a small festive event was possible as part of a special session of the city parliament.

Mistakes and successes

Torsten Gertz, the chairman of the Heimatverein, looked back on the eventful history of Malchin in his celebratory speech. Afterwards, some in the hall said that there was a lot that Gertz had revealed to them that he had not yet known.

Müller, in turn, said that the three mayors have set accents in urban development since 1990 in their respective terms of office. “In retrospect, mistakes were made, not all development goals were achieved, or developments were initiated that subsequent mayors can bring to an end.” For example, it is up to him to bring the pool water warming in the Peenebad to a happy conclusion. “By happy, I don’t mean the structural implementation, but rather that our residents and guests use this offer as we all imagine,” said Müller. He is sure that Malchin will continue to develop. “I’m looking forward to looking back at the 800th anniversary,” said Müller.
