Goodyear supplies tires for many manufacturers of concept and racing models, but this time they showed a completely unique product for the Citroen Urban Collectif concept, a joint project between the French carmaker, Accor and JCDecaux. The car runs on special spherical tires.
It’s hard to call it a car. Citroen itself describes its new product as a “revolutionary mobility concept”. The car is built on the so-called platform Citroen Skate, which is equipped with electric motors, batteries and various autonomous driving systems.
The wheels, called the Eagle 360, were created specifically for the concept. Spherical tires are hidden in cubes equipped with small electric motors that allow the wheels to rotate in both directions, like the balls in old computer mice.
Urban Collectif will not drive at the same high speeds that cars were used to in the movie “Me, the Robot”. Its maximum speed is only 25 kilometers per hour, but not due to low engine power, but only for safety reasons.
